Re: Transportation Award for Admitted StudentsThe Graduate School will continue to offer transportation awards for admitted students. The purpose of the award is to help departments recruit outstanding admitted students to their programs. The award pays up to $350 for or towards an airfare only. If an admitted student is selected for the award, the Graduate School will purchase an electronic ticket for the admitted student through a university approved travel agency. Departments that wish to add to the cost of the ticket can do so through the selected travel agency. The Graduate School will not reimburse departments or admitted students directly for travel costs. Departments will need to provide housing and meals while students are visiting.
To apply for the transportation award departments must submit the attached application.
Eligibility
- All departments with graduate programs.
- All admitted students including domestic and international students.
- Admitted students must have a G.P.A. of at least 3.5.
Procedure
- The application must be submitted at least 16 days prior to the visit and before the deadline for fall or spring transportation award applications.
- Because of limited funding, degree programs within departments can only nominate 2 students per degree program. Departments are required to rank order their nominations within the program.
- If the application is approved, departments can work directly with the selected travel agency and admitted student to make travel arrangements. The Graduate School will send a copy of the approval letter directly to the travel agency. The travel agency will use the Graduate School account to purchase an electronic ticket for the student. The name and contact information of the travel agency will be provided in the award letter.
- The Department must notify the Graduate School on the outcome of the visit prior to the start of the next semester.
The Deadline for students enrolling during the Fall semester is: April 1st. Awards will be decided as soon as possible, hopefully within a few business days so that travel arrangements can be made. If you have any questions, please email me at: lacey@nmsu.edu.
