*You must complete the Application for Degree for the semester you are planning to graduate. If you applied in a previous semester but did not graduate, you will need to reapply for degree.

October 2 Deadline to file your Application for Degree at my.nmsu.edu (with a late fee).

October 6 Deadline to submit dissertation titles to the Graduate School in order to participate in commencement ceremony.

*This is for doctoral degrees only. There is not a submission of title that is used in the commencement program for Master’s thesis students.

October 30 Thesis, Dissertation, or Professional Doctorate Exam Form: Deadline to turn in the Final Exam Form.

*Do not wait until the deadline to complete this form. Please note that this is the last day to submit the form for the last possible day to hold your exam this semester. When planning to hold your exam, you must submit your exam form at least 10 business days before your exam is held to the Graduate School for processing. The Graduate School will then send out your exam paperwork to your committee. This form needs departmental signatures and takes time to complete before you submit it. If this form is not submitted on time, you may need to reschedule your exam and your degree may be certified in a later semester

November 10 Deadline to hold a thesis, dissertation, or doctoral final oral or written exam.

*In order to hold your exam, you must be enrolled in the required hours of thesis, dissertation or doctoral project hours. Doctoral students must be registered for 3 credit hours, and Master’s students must be enrolled in at least one credit hour.

November 15 Deadline to submit a thesis or dissertation to the Graduate School for format review.

*Please see the Thesis and Dissertation Guidelines website for step by step information prior to submitting. You will need to complete forms and submit them with your paper for format review.

November 17 Deadline to turn in the Final Exam Form for Master’s non-thesis students and Educational Specialist students.

*You must contact your department advisor and inquire about the departmental procedure for non-thesis exams. If your department requires you to complete this form, do not wait until the deadline to complete this form. Please note that this is the last day to submit the form for the last possible day to hold your exam this semester. When planning to hold your exam, you must submit your exam form at least 10 business days before your exam is held to the Graduate School for processing. The Graduate School will then send out your exam paperwork to your committee. This form needs departmental signatures and takes time to complete before it is turned into the Graduate School. If this form is not submitted on time, you may need to reschedule your exam and your degree may be certified in a later semester.

December 8 Deadline to hold a non-thesis final oral or written exam.

*In order to hold your exam, you must be enrolled or pay the exam fee.
